Cover Crop

I took this picture of our cover crop yesterday and thought I’d share. It is by far the best cover crop we’ve grown thanks to all the rain we’ve gotten.   It’s a mix of oats (the grassy looking stuff), turnips (the broadleaf looking stuff with the hairy leaves), and radishes (the broadleaf looking stuff with the smooth leaves). The turnips and radishes are a bit different than the ones we plant in our gardens. They grow a larger tap root which helps breakup the compaction in the soil. But you can still eat them if you’d like!

In about a month we’ll turn our weaned calves out on it and they will be in Heaven. Heck, it looks good enough I kinda want to eat it! But I won’t.

Happy Wednesday!
