RAGBRAI was this week in Iowa and for those of you who aren’t familiar with RAGBRAI, it stands for Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. And that’s exactly what it is. Thousands of bikers take a week-long trip across the state…on a bike.
And this year they happened to go through Diagonal and Mount Ayr. It was a sight to see. I got to town around 7:00 and it was fairly calm. There were bikers, but not too many. I had volunteered to work at the church so Abby and I headed down to help.
We worked in the kitchen for the next several hours making breakfast burritos as fast as we could. It was really a fun experience. Our little town of about 300 people exploded into a thriving metropolis for the next several hours. It was a sight to behold!
After we ran out of supplies to make the burritos, we headed to Main Street and I was blown away by the number of people. It was unreal. In fact, it was a bit of a chore even to walk across the road! But the people were very friendly and we got to visit with several. Many were from out of state and even out of the country.
We finally made it to our truck and headed out of town…in the opposite direction from the bikes. It was definitely a day to remember!
