The 5th Graders

I visited Mrs. Adams’s 5th grade class yesterday. We are working together to come up with a promotional poster for beef. It’s a competition sponsored by some state ag organizations which one of the student’s saw and brought to his class’s attention. And once the kids learned about it, they were all onboard! I think the thing that got them most excited was that the poster winner would receive $200 and a BBQ lunch provided by the Iowa Beef Industry Council.

They were to find a local producer to partner with and I gladly volunteered.

I had so much fun working with these guys. They were such a well-behaved, enthusiastic group of kids. We started researching facts and recipes and it felt like I was there 5 minutes but in reality, it was more like an hour. Time flies when you’re having fun!

And Mrs. Adams told me they are incorporating the project into multiple parts of their curriculum such as writing, science, and social studies. They’ve been researching agriculture and studying its importance to the community and writing joural entries about what they’ve learned. What a great thing!

I’ll keep you posted on how the competition goes.

Have a great day!
