The Cover Crop

We turned our Larson calves out on the cover crop a couple days ago. They are loving it.

The cover crop is a mixture of oats, radishes, and turnips and I must admit it looks mighty tasty. I was very tempted to go out and cut some greens for myself.

The plan is to let these guys graze the cover crop while feeding them a mixed ration (you can just see the red bunks in the corner of this picture) until around the first of January. Then we’ll sort them and finish feeding out the calves in the feedlot.

We’ve never run calves on a cover crop before, so it will be fun to see how they do.

Hope you have a good day!
